IDPH: Maine nurse would not be quarantined in Illinois

The Illinois Department of Public Health's guidelines on Ebola monitoring exactly matches the ruling made by a Maine judge on Friday regarding nurse Kaci Hickox, authorities say.

Melaney Arnold, communications manager for the Illinois Department of Public Health, said Hickox would be considered low-risk under the guidelines used by both the Illinois public health department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“She would not have been quarantined at all,” Arnold said of a case like Hickox's potentially occurring in Illinois. “It would have been no travel restriction and verified self-monitoring.”

As it is, the Maine judge's ruling has no legal impact on Illinois policy, Arnold added.
