Expert joins effort to identify Gary bodies

CROWN POINT, Ind. - A forensic anthropologist is working with coroner's office investigators to identify three women whose remains were found inside abandoned Gary houses.

They are among the seven women whom police say 43-year-old Darren Vann has confessed to killing.

The Times of Munster reports University of Indianapolis professor Krista Latham arrived Tuesday at the Lake County coroner's office. Investigators say they are also working determine the causes of death for the three women.

Vann faces murder and other charges in the strangulation deaths of 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy and 35-year-old Anith Jones.

The deaths of 28-year-old Teaira Batey and 36-year-old Kristine Williams have been ruled as homicides caused by strangulation.

Hardy's body was found in a Hammond motel, while the other women were found dead inside Gary houses.
