Endorsement: Quigley for Congress, Dist. 5

Before his first election to Congress in 2008, Democrat Mike Quigley cut his teeth on common-sense economic leadership as a Cook County Board commissioner constantly challenging spending policies while still producing significant programs to help the environment. As a congressman, he remains an independent thinker who can point to numerous specific instances of working alongside Republicans to develop legislation on immigration, corruption and transparency. His Republican challenger, Vince Kolber, added to the ballot late in the summer after the GOP posted no candidates in the primary, is mounting a spirited campaign and offers some compelling ideas on issues facing Congress. But Quigley is a thoughtful congressman who has done a strong job representing the values of the 5th District. He is endorsed. Also running is Nancy Wade on the Green Party ticket.
