Girls volleyball: Northwest roundup

No. 12-seeded Conant wasn't on its home floor on Monday.

But the Cougars still played in its home town and won its Class 4A girls volleyball regional play-in match.

The Cougars went across town to Hoffman Estates and topped the No. 21 Hawks 25-10 25-20 for the third time this season.

Conant will face No. 5 Lake Park in Tuesday's 6:30 p.m. semifinal.

Senior Elisa Ambrose set the attack for Conant with 9 assists while also collecting 5 aces and 3 kills.

Alyssa Wachal put down 3 kills while Joniece Jones, Jori Wachal and Rachel Delanois each had 2.

Cougars libero Dhara Patel recorded 12 digs and 3 aces.

at Grayslake Central: No. 13 Prospect advanced to today's 5:30 p.m. semifinal of the Class 4A regional with a 15-25, 25-16, 25-21 victory over No. 20 Grayslake North.

"We were on our heels the first game," said Prospect coach Gabrielle Lovin. "We knew had to come out strong the next two games to give ourselves a chance.

"Maggie Porwit (kills, 1 block), Cat Sherwood (9 blocks, 2 blocks) and Carolyn Sherrick were great in the second game. This team never stops fighting. I love that about them."

Sammy Withey added 7 kills for Prospect while setter Michelle Haaning had 23 assists and 5 digs.

Sarah Cutaia led the back row with 13 digs while Nikki Matters had 8 and Rachael Grippo 5.

Prospect faces No. 4 Glenbrook South today.

at Larkin: Hannah Mickey (6 kills), Megan King (5), Jenny Srnak (3) and Maddie Sellergren (3) led the attack for Rolling Meadows in a 25-15, 25-21 victory over Fenton in the Class 4A play-in match.

Megan Mich (8 assists) and King (7) handled the setting chores while King and Mickey each had 8 digs followed by Paige Connor (7).

The Mustangs (9-27) will face No. 3 Maine East in today's 5:30 p.m. semifinal.

at Cary-Grove: No. 4 Lake Zurich posted a 25-17, 25-15 victory over No. 5 Barrington in the Class 4A regional play-in match.

at Niles West: No. 15 Resurrection defeated No. 19 Maine West 25-16, 15-25, 26-24 in the Class 4A play-in match.
