Justin Braun named Eagle Scout

Submitted by Countryside Fire Protection District

Justin Braun has completed the rank of Eagle Scout.

Scout Master Kevin Johnson and Troop 95 celebrated with a formal ceremony in the Vernon Township Community Center. Braun offered to install an American Flag Receptacle at the Countryside Fire Protection District Headquarters located at 600 Deerpath Drive, Vernon Hills. Permission was granted by the fire district for the Eagle Scout Project under the supervision of Troop Master Kevin Johnson. Braun secured the permits, supplies and equipment, and organized the manpower for excavation and installation of the receptacle.

Countryside Fire District Public Education Coordinator Tony Rodkey suggested the project to Master Johnson due to multiple requests from residents needing a place to retire their American flags properly.

"We always referred our residents to the Mundelein Fire Department where an Eagle Scout completed the same project some years ago," Rodkey said. "It is great to have this need fulfilled in our fire district as well."

Since January 2014 there have been 350 American flags deposited for proper disposal according to Troop Master Johnson.

"It is really nice to meet a community need and see our young men take on a project and bring it to fruition," said Johnson.

The American flag receptacle is accessible 24 hours a day.
