ComEd wins approval for new transmission line

Commonwealth Edison plans to begin construction next year of a 60-mile high-voltage transmission line in northern Illinois.

The Illinois Commerce Commission announced Thursday that it has approved the Grand Prairie Gateway Project.

The line will run through Ogle, DeKalb, Kane and DuPage counties.

ComEd says the line will save consumers money by reducing grid congestion and increasing access to wind power and other lower-cost energy.

The company says that it will also reduce carbon emissions by nearly half a million tons over 15 years.
