Off-duty Chicago police officer shot and wounded

An off-duty Chicago police has been shot and wounded.

A Police Department news release says three men approached the 41-year-old officer as he sat in his vehicle around 1 a.m. Friday. One of the men fired a handgun as the officer drove away.

The victim was hit in the chest and taken to a hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

The officer has been on the force for eight years and received 22 departmental awards.

No one else was injured, and no arrests have been announced.
