Long Grove man dies after crash

A Long Grove man died after his vehicle ran into a parked semi Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on the southbound shoulder of Old McHenry Road north of Prairie Wind Drive in Long Grove, police said in a news release.

A 2010 Chevy HHR driven by Mark M. Howard, 58, was traveling south when it struck a 2003 Mack truck parked on the southbound shoulder of the road facing north. The driver was unloading materials at a job site nearby and was not in the truck at the time.

Howard's vehicle caught fire after the crash. Long Grove firefighters cut him from the wreckage before taking him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County sheriff's office.
