Savory Salads coming to Arlington Hts.

Arlington Heights diners will soon have a new place to find healthy salads, soups and sandwiches.

Savory Salads, a family-owned restaurant with another location in Barrington, will open soon at 2932 W. Euclid Ave., in the Esplanade shopping center. The village board approved a special use permit for the restaurant on Monday night.

“It is excellent, excellent food,” said owner Dominic Buttitta Jr. “It will be a great addition to Arlington Heights for sure.”

Buttitta told the plan commission his menu includes panini sandwiches, salads with fresh produce and soups.

The menu also has flatbreads, breakfast foods, wraps, coffee and baked goods.

The 1,756-square-foot restaurant will have both dine-in and carryout options, with 44 seats indoors and 24 seats outdoors, according to the staff report.

Savory Salads will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and closed Sundays.

The restaurant will not apply for a liquor license. It will employ a maximum of eight employees at any one time, the staff report said.

According to plan commission notes, 53 percent of the Esplanade shopping center — which also has a Starbucks and Subway restaurant — is currently vacant.

“I think this will be a great addition to the shopping center,” said Arlington Heights Trustee John Scaletta. “This shopping center specifically is filling in slowly, but I think you're getting there at the right time.”

The shopping center is nearby the up-and-coming Arlington Downs mixed-use development that will include residential, retail and commercial properties when completed.
