Chicago man charged with battery of 13-year-old
Authorities have charged a Chicago man who they say whipped a 13-year-old relative with an electric cord after he was sent home for not bringing a parent to a parent-teach conference.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports 38-year-old Mario Boone was charged with domestic battery Sunday in Cook County court and ordered held on $10,000 bond.
Prosecutors say the boy was living with Boone when he was sent home in May. He says Boone punched the boy in the face and whipped him for about 10 minutes.
Prosecutors say Boone didn't allow the boy to go to school for the next two days because he had visible injuries. The boy was treated for over 50 welts and cuts at a hospital after other family members intervened.
It wasn't immediately clear if Boone has an attorney.
