Hersey's program perfect against MSL East

Hersey's streak of 12 straight Mid-Suburban League East girls volleyball championships is quite the feat.

The Huskies program added another rare accomplishment on Thursday.

With its freshman and sophomore teams pulling out three-set wins at Rolling Meadows on Thursday, all levels combined for a 50-0 record this fall.

The varsity squad completed its 10-0 run with a 25-12, 25-15 triumph as Liz Fuerst put down a match-high 12 kills.

The Mid-Suburban League East champion Huskies (20-4) will host West champion Schaumburg (19-9, 9-1) on Thursday for the MSL championship.

Other top attackers for Hersey were Gabri Olhava (5 kills) and Zoe Strozewski (3 kills).

Courtney Stedman handed out 18 assists while Paige Pannozzo had 15 digs.

Maddie Sellergren (5 kills), Johns (4) and Hannah Mickey (3) led Meadows (7-22, 2-8).

Fremd d. Palatine: The crosstown match went to host Fremd as the Vikings (17-6, 8-2) wrapped up second place in the MSL West with a 26-24, 25-22.

Leading the attack for Curt Pinley's club were Lane Hindenburg (14 kills), Hope Schroeder (9) and Ysabel Lee (4) as they received their cues from Carly Roberts (25 assists) and Jackie Mursuli (5).

Aubrey Stegich collected 20 digs in the back row where Sarah Roberts and Hindenburg (4 blocks) meach had 10.

Palatine was led on attack by Meg Angelaccio (7 kills), Jess Lundell (6 kills) and Heather Holz (5 kills) while Sydney Christiansen handed out 20 assists.

Alyssa Kronberg collected 19 digs for Palatine (19-8, 7-3) which took third in the MSL West.

Buffalo Grove d. Prospect: Buffalo Grove (wrapped up MSL East play with a 7-3 record and second place as the Bison rallied for a hard-fought 21-25, 25-23, 28-26 victory in Mt. Prospect.

Marie Georgoulis ran the attack for BG which saw Monica Browne lead with 13 kills followed by Sara Biesiadecki (11), Kanela Kalyviaris (6), Alicia Kantor (6) and Katelyn Sommers (4). Michelle Haaning had 25 assists, 14 digs 6 kills for Prospect (5-5 in the East), which also received 9 kills from Sammy Withey, 8 from Kaeli Myers, 5 from Catherine Sherwood and 4 from Maggie Porwit.

"This is a tough loss for us to swallow," said Knights coach Gabrielle Lovin. "It in no way shows how far this team has come and how much heart we have. We were fighting for second in the conference and came so close to achieving that. We must refocus and push even harder so we are ready for the state tournament."

Wheeling d. Elk Grove: The host Wildcats are led on attack by Domenica Montesin (11 kills) Michaela Vasey (10) and Timber Terrell (9) in a 25-13, 19-25, 25-16 MSL East triumph.

Sabrina Semeria handed out 22 assists and collected 12 digs as the Wildcats improved to 12-12 and finished 6-4 in the East.

Barrington d. Hoffman Estates: The visiting Fillies competed play at 3-7 in the MSL West with a 24-26, 25-17, 25-14 triumph.

Jennie Nailor (5 kills) and Kelsey Warford (4) led Hoffman (3-25 0-10) which also received 3 apiece from Marielle Lugo and Kaitlyn Imburgia.

Fenwick d. St. Viator: Host Fenwick posted a 25-13, 20-25, 20-25 victory in the East Suburban Catholic match.

Leading the Lions (20-12-1, 1-4) on attack were Grace Fedus (8 kills) Gabi Thomas (7 kills), Alyssa Forbes (5 kills) and Kaitlyn O'Brien (5 kills), who also set the attack with 29 assists.
