Winner of Illinois short film contest announced

The Illinois Film Office has announced the winner of the state's seventh annual short film contest.

It's a film called "Parietal Guidance." It's written and directed by Lonnie Edwards. It stars his daughter, Alinah Edwards.

A Tuesday statement from the office says the film's title derives from a part of the brain called the parietal lobe, which helps interpret information.

Edwards says he drew inspiration from his children and the realization about how much they go through in a single day. The film was shot over six days as his daughter encountered people around Chicago.

The Illinois Film Office is a state body. Its mission is to promote Illinois as a destination for making movies. Tuesday's statement says Illinois' film industry generated $358 million in spending last year.
