Riverside-Brookfield routs Fenton

Fenton ran into a juggernaut of a football team when it faced off against Metro Suburban West rival Riverside-Brookfield on Friday night. Try as they might, the visiting Bison couldn't keep up with an explosive Bulldogs offense that lit up the scoreboard early and often to capture a 49-6 victory in Brookfield.

R-B (5-2, 3-0) piled up 449 yards of total offense led by a stellar performance from quarterback Ryan Swift, who threw 5 touchdown passes on 14-of-16 passing for 270 yards. His favorite target was tight end Kyle Tracy, who had 9 catches, including 2 for touchdowns, for 181 yards. Tracy's longest reception was 51 yards for a score. Running back Matt Chapp, who exhibited some amazing cutback moves, notched 4 touchdowns as well.

"(The Bulldogs) have done a great job with their program," said Fenton coach Mark Kos. "It's pretty obvious that we have to play better than we are right now. We are capable of playing much better. Our job as coaches is to keep this team focused, motivated and get their spirits up right now."

The loss dropped the Bison record to 4-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference. They have two games remaining in the regular season and must win both of them to be guaranteed a spot in the postseason.

Fenton trailed 28-0 at halftime after R-B needed only two plays and 16 seconds to score a touchdown with 43 seconds to play before halftime. This was Tracy's big catch.

"(Tracy) has been flying under the radar this season," said R-B coach Brendan Curtin. "That was our mentality. We burned a couple of timeouts trying to get the ball back. Our guys know we are trying to go dagger time and put another six-spot up on the board. I was proud of how they executed."

Speaking of execution, the Bison did a nice job marching down the field for a score in the third quarter. Quarterback Willie Wassmann capped a 5-play drive by connecting with wide receiver Josh Casey on a 30-yard touchdown pass. Casey also had a 16-yard reception right before that play.

"That shows that these guys have the athletic ability and the skills," Kos said. "We are excited to get back to work. We look forward to the challenge we have. We have a very meaningful Week 8 game (at Wheaton Academy next Friday night). We have a lot of work to do."

Fenton running back Kyle McPherson collected 48 yards on 12 carries.
