Boys soccer: Lake County roundup

Hampshire's boys soccer team played the role of spoiler Wednesday night, edging host Grayslake Central 1-0 in penalty kicks.

It marked the first loss in Fox Valley Conference Fox action for Grayslake Central (13-4, 4-1), which concludes division play next Tuesday at Woodstock. Crystal Lake Central and Prairie Ridge also have 1 loss in the FVC Fox.

Hampshire (6-13-2, 3-3) prevailed after the teams played two overtime sessions. The Whip-Purs outlasted the Rams 4-3 in kicks, as keeper Andy Pederson stopped a pair of shots. Pederson recorded 11 saves in regular time and added six more in OT.

Grayslake Central keeper Connor Gosell was credited with 1 save.

"We couldn't finish," Grayslake Central coach Steve Feldman said. "We hit crossbars and posts. It's the most disappointing loss in my two years of coaching. We dominated possession, and we dominated the field."

Carmel 2, Marian Central 1: The Corsairs handed the Hurricanes (10-2-1) their first loss in East Suburban Catholic Conference action.

Carmel improved to 6-8-2 and 3-3 in the ESCC.
