Chicago alderman speaks up for Mrs. O'Leary's cow
Chicago keeps trying to make up with the family of Mrs. O'Leary and her much maligned cow.
On Wednesday, Alderman Edward Burke introduced a city council resolution commemorating the 143rd anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire. As he's done before, he reminded the audience that he and the rest of the council in 1997 officially exonerated Catherine O'Leary and her cow, Daisy.
All this comes far too late for O'Leary, of course. She's been dead for more than a century.
But some of her descendants were invited to Wednesday's council meeting. Afterward they said that it meant a lot that Burke keeps reminding the public of the innocence of O'Leary and her cow.
