Boys soccer: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, Oct. 7

Cary-Grove 3, Jacobs 1: Thanks to a pair of goals from Michael Arenberg, the Trojans (14-2, 3-1) were able to win this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division contest. Arenberg scored once in the first half, from Casey Charbonneau, then again in the second, by Esteban Angeles, to give the Trojans the lead both times. Josh Gratz kicked in the final score while Ethan Csoka finished with 3 saves. The Golden Eagles (4-14-1, 1-2) got their lone goal by Noah Melick off a pass from Michael Pasetes. Ethan Pickering (5 saves) and Eduardo Guimaray (5 saves) split time in goal.

Dundee-Crown 3, Huntley 2 (PKs): After two halves and a full overtime period the Chargers (12-5-1, 2-1-0) finally broke the tie, which started back in the second half, with 4 goals in penalty kicks to earn the FVC Valley victory. Ivan Sanchez assisted by Jeremy Jareckyj got the scoring started for D-C as it took an early 1-0 lead, with Jareckyj scoring again in the second where it would end in regulation with a 2-2 tie. Keeper Jose Gonzales stopped 2 shots in PKs and had 11 saves overall. Both of the Red Raiders' (5-10-4) goals came in the last 12 minutes, with Alessandro Vergara scoring on a pass from Michael Zembrzuski and Zembrzuski netting a goal with just 2 minutes left in regulation to tie it.

Streamwood 3, Elgin 1: After trailing at the half, Alan Camarena caught fire and finally got the Sabres' (11-3-1, 2-1-2) offense going with 3 second-half goals to down the Maroons in Upstate Conference River play. Elgin got things started with a goal by Daniel Geary, with the assist going to Zach Gierlak, but could not hold onto the lead as Camarena took things over from there. With Blerim Shoboni getting the lone assist, Camarena pushed his team lead in goals to 19 on the year. Edgar Rodriguez was in goal for Elgin and made 8 saves on the night while Sergio Blanco made 4 saves for Streamwood.

Bartlett 2, Glenbard East 0: A big day from Timmy Riordan on his birthday helped secure the victory for the Hawks (5-12, 2-4) as they won at home in UEC Valley play. Riordan scored the first goal of the game, with the assist going to Igor Zwada, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half and assisted on the final goal by Andrew Gott. Jake Hasenstein earned the shutout in goal with 6 saves.

Metea Valley 2, South Elgin 1: The Storm (7-6-2, 2-2-1) could not overcome a first half deficit and fall on the road in UEC Valley action. Sergio Pedroza finished with the only goal for the Storm as he found the back of the net in the second half unassisted. Colton Wenig was in goal for South Elgin and finished with 3 saves.

West Chicago 2, Larkin 1: One goal once again was where the Royals (5-10-4, 1-4-2) found themselves short, this time in a UEC River loss to the Wildcats. Down 1-0 after the first half, Able Saenz found the back of the net on a pass from Moises Raya. Leo Perez was in goal once again for Larkin and finished the game with 6 saves.

Hampshire 3, Woodstock 1: The Whip-Purs (5-13-2, 2-3) gave their crowd something to cheer for on senior night as they came back with 3 unanswered goals in the second half in FVC Fox action. Senior Jose Hernandez made his final home game one to remember with a pair of goals to not only tie the game 1-1 but also to give Hampshire the lead for good. Hernandez also got the assist on the final goal from Tyler Fairwood. Senior goalkeeper Andy Pederson also had a big game with 12 saves in goal.

Burlington Central 6, Genoa-Kingston 1: Jack Schramme did not need to take over in the second half to help the Rockets (11-5-2, 9-2-0) secure the Big Northern Conference East Division matchup, but it also didn't hurt. Schramme had a hat trick in the second half to push the BC lead to 5. In the first half the scoring got started thanks to a G-K own goal and the Rockets took off from there with Chris Leberecht and Cole Tecza both scoring. Ryan Fitzgerald was in goal and finished with 3 saves.
