Boys soccer: Lake County roundup

Matt Grammins scored in the first half off an assist from Angel Herrera, and that goal held up for Vernon Hills' boy soccer team, as the Cougars edged host Zion-Benton 1-0 in a North Suburban Conference crossover Tuesday night.

Brennan Reback made 7 saves in earning the shutout for Vernon Hills (7-8-2).

"I thought we battled and showed great grit tonight," Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. "It was nice to see our group fight through adversity and get rewarded. Zion had its chances in the second half, but the back four and goalkeeper stayed strong."

Zion-Benton fell to 6-10-2.

Libertyville 5, Lakes 1: The host Wildcats received goals from Paul McKeon, Sam Kratzer, Gerard Touhey, Kevin Reilly and Jacob Rasmussen in the North Suburban crossover.

Liam O'Connell added a pair of assists for Libertyville (11-3), which led only 2-1 at halftime. McKeon, Touhey and Thomas Vondrak also assisted on goals.

Lakes saw its record fall to 5-10-5.

Mundelein 6, Antioch 1: Armando Gomez scored a natural hat trick for the host Mustangs, who celebrated senior night by snapping a two-game losing streak.

Mason Homsey added a pair of goals for Mundelein (10-5-3) in the North Suburban crossover. Lino Garcia had a goal and an assist, while Yann Nsoga Jesus Alba and Hector Ruiz picked up assists as well. Mustangs keeper Jesse Ramirez made 8 saves.

Iven Hernandez scored his 31st goal of the season and 98th of his career for Antioch (13-7).

Grayslake Central 3, Crystal Lake Central 2: The Rams prevailed in double overtime to stay undefeated in Fox Valley Fox Division play, getting goals from Isaac Longenecker, Randy Betancourth and Jonny Madrid.

Longenecker and Paul Kulis had assists for Grayslake Central (13-3, 4-0).

Woodstock North 3, Grayslake North 0: The Knights fell to 10-7-2 and 2-3 in the Fox Valley Fox.
