Burlington C. grad Maroder coming up big at Augie

Burlington Central graduate Tim Maroder has put himself into the record books.

Maroder, a senior defensive back on the Augustana College football team, recently was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin defensive player of the week after he registered 4 interceptions in a late September game against Loras College.

Maroder also finished the game with 5 solo tackles. He registered his first interception midway through the first quarter that stopped a Loras drive on the 5-yard-line.

The remainder of his picks occurred in the fourth quarter. His third interception halted a Loras drive at the Augustana 30. That pick tied a school record previously held by 8 players.

His final one came on the final play of the game and occurred in the end zone. Maroder returned the interception 25 yards.

Augustana won the game 34-17. The squad sported a 1-3 overall record after a recent 17-10 loss at Elmhurst College. In that game, Maroder had 7 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle and 1 tackle for loss.

Through four games, Maroder, a political science and communications major, is leading the team in solo tackles with 27 and has 30 total tackles.
