Brokmeier to coach College of Lake County women's basketball

The College of Lake County has hired a new coaching staff this year for women's basketball, following the retirement of Bill Braman this past spring.

Kyle Brokmeier has been named head coach, and Jaime Koniecki has been hired as assistant coach for the Lancers.

Brokmeier takes over the CLC program after spending the last five seasons as the girls varsity coach at Milwaukee Pulaski High School.

"I am extremely proud and excited to be chosen as the new coach at the College of Lake County," Brokmeier said. "Coach Braman did an excellent job of establishing a program that was competitive every year. My job is to take all his hard work and add to the program in terms of wins and losses and academic achievement."

During Brokmeier's time at Pulaski, the basketball program was moved from the Milwaukee City Conference's lower division to its top division, and averaged 13 wins per season. Prior to coaching at Pulaski, Brokmeier held many different positions at the high school and college level, including head coaching positions at Crossroads College, Mount Senario College (now closed) and UWC-Rock County.

Koniecki (nee Schaufel) is coming full circle, having started her playing career at CLC before moving on to play at Judson University. Since her graduation from Judson, Koniecki has coached the girls JV team at Round Lake, where she teaches.

"It is obvious to me in the short time I have known Jaime that she will be a great representative for what CLC stands for, and an outstanding asset for the program," Brokmeier said.

The College of Lake County's women's basketball team started practice on Wednesday and will participate in the Rock Valley Jamboree on Oct. 11. The regular season starts for the Lancers with a 5:15 p.m. home game on Nov. 6 against Harper College.
