Cary-Grove falls to St. Francis

Cary-Grove's girls volleyball team hung with defending Class 3A state champion St. Francis Friday but in the end the Spartans prevailed 28-26, 28-26 in pool play at the Asics Challenge at Mother McAuley.

"We did a great job of competing with the No. 1 team in the state and now we know we can play at that level," said Trojans' coach Patty Langanis.

Cary-Grove (17-5) beat Lone Peak (UT) in its other match 25-16, 25-16.

Abby Schebel had 9 kills, Bree Coffey 28 digs and Sarah Graham 8 aces to lead Cary-Grove.
