Dining events: Wheeling's Taste of Town offers a bounty

Enjoy the bounty of the harvest at Wheeling's Taste of Town from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9. The evening includes food and drink tastings, live entertainment, raffles and chef demonstrations. Participating restaurants include Allgauer's on the Riverfront, Benihana, Bob Chinn's Crab House, Buca di Beppo, Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurant, Pete Miller's and many more. Tickets cost $30 in advance; $40 at the door.

New China reopens in Fox River Grove
After a devastating fire in 2013, New China Restaurant in Fox River Grove is serving its popular Cantonese cuisine again. The restaurant offers dinner from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 4 to 10 p.m. Monday and is open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Delivery is available from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily. The menu includes hot and spicy items that can be made hot, medium or mild.

Brunch at Il Poggiolo
You can now do brunch at Il Poggiolo in downtown Hinsdale. From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sundays try the short rib skillet made with braised short ribs, wild mushrooms, caramelized cipollini onions, smoked Gouda, house potatoes and two eggs your way for $12. Or, tackle the tower of pancakes with rosemary lemon glaze, blueberry gelee or orange ricotta for $10. The four-cheese omelette made with oven roasted tomatoes, Parmesan, mozzarella, pecorino, provolone and basil costs $10.
