Boys soccer: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, Oct. 2

Crystal Lake South 2, McHenry 0: A pair of goals proved to be enough for standout goalie Dalton Kause as he earned his sixth shutout of the year and gave the Gators (12-4-1, 4-0) at least a share of the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division title. Orlando Tapia scored in the first half on a pass from Andrew Grabowski, who would later score in the second half unassisted to ice the game. Kause finished with 2 saves in goal to secure the shutout.

Crystal Lake Central 2, Hampshire 1: A late goal after a scoreless first half could not save the Whip-Purs (4-11-1, 1-3) as they fell in FVC Fox action. Douglas Stuehler had the lone Hampshire goal on an assist from Jose Herrandez. Andy Pederson came up big in goal and kept the game close with 16 saves.

Cary-Grove 2, Huntley 0: After losing to CL South on Tuesday, the Trojans (12-2, 1-1) bounced back amid the rain and lightning to shutout the Red Raiders in an FVC Valley matchup. Mike Arenberg put C-G up early with a goal in the first half and was followed in turn by Josh Gratz in the second. Ethan Csoka added another shutout to his resume this year, stopping 4 shots. The Red Raiders (4-9-4, 0-2) used a pair of goalies to slow down the Trojan attack but could not counter. Michael Parks finished with 4 saves while Andrew Fulcer had 2 saves in net.

Westminster Christian 6, Elgin Academy 4: Elgin Academy scored first but could not keep up with Robert Kleczynski and the Warriors' (8-8-1) offense as Westminster won a nonconference affair. Kleczynski scored 5 goals, assisted by Chase Woods, Joey Tyrrell, Zach Zeiman and 2 by Noah Gannon, and caused another to be scored on an own goal from a kick that hit the crossbar. Keeper Sam Carani finished with 3 saves. The Hilltoppers (6-6-0) had four different goal scorers. Armin Ward, Drew Wilmington, Karl Rauschenberger and Julian Romano all found the back of the net. In goal, Spencer Schael finished with 23 saves.

Harvest Christian 4, Cornerstone 1: A pair of goals from Alessandro D'Argento gave the Lions enough of a cushion for a nonconference win. Sergio Velazquez, scoring on a pass from Westin White, and Austin White had the other two scores in the victory. Noah Fox saw limited action on the defensive end, in part thanks to 29 shots on goal by the Lions, but still managed 2 saves.

St. Edward 5, Chicago Christian 2: Joe French scored all 5 goals for the Green Wave in their Metro Suburban West win.
