Jackie Robinson West fall team in Rosemont Saturday

Little leaguers hoping to become the next champions in the Jackie Robinson West program will play this weekend at Rosemont's Dome at the Ballpark.

Nearly 100 members of the Chicago-based baseball program's fall league will play against each other and participate in a clinic conducted by coaches with the Illinois Baseball Academy.

"The kids that are going to be here on Saturday are the kids aspiring to play baseball and eventually be a part of the team that went to the Little League World Series," said Chris Beacom, the academy's president. "They were supposed to play Saturday at their home fields, and instead we're moving their games out here to be a part of this venue. ... The gist of what we're doing here is getting the kids out of their community and opening them up to opportunities that exist in baseball beyond where they're accustomed to being."

The Jackie Robinson West team that won the Little League World Series U.S. title game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in August played in tournaments last winter at the Rosemont dome, Beacom said.

Beacom arranged for the up-and-coming Jackie Robinson West players to come to Rosemont after meeting the program's director, Bill Haley, at a Cubs game.

The players will be at the dome, located west of the Tri-State Tollway and north of Balmoral Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
