Person in custody after death of Carpentersville woman

A “person of interest” was in custody Tuesday afternoon after a Carpentersville woman was found dead Monday night in her home, police said.

Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Erman Blevins said the woman's death appeared to be related to a domestic situation, and the public should not feel alarmed.

“This was not a random act,” he said.

The woman appeared to have been stabbed in her home on the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue, police said.

Police were called by a neighbor about 9:54 p.m. The neighbor heard a disturbance and went to investigate, and found a middle-aged woman suffering from apparent stab wounds, police said.

The woman died at the scene, and her identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives, police said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Carpentersville police posted on Facebook that they were looking for a middle-aged woman who lives at the victim's address. They later posted the woman had been located.

Blevins said he couldn't “confirm or deny” whether the missing woman was connected to the ongoing investigation.

Joe Perez, owner of VP Automotive across the street, said police showed him a photo of a woman they are looking for.

“It was somebody else involved with the stabbing, not the victim,” he said. He added he didn't know the dead woman.

Police also looked into garbage cans of nearby properties and searched the banks of the Fox River along Lincoln Avenue.

Mark Majewski, owner of Top Notch Sheet Metal, also across the street, said he used to see the victim walk her dogs, but didn't know her. “It's pretty sad,” he said.

Police visited his business Tuesday morning but did not show him any photos, he said.

“They just came to check the entire building out, to make sure that everything was good,” he said.

“I've been here 12 years and we never had a problem.”
