Police: 2 killed in Wisconsin, missing girl is safe

BERLIN, Wis. — Two people were killed and one man was taken into custody in what Berlin authorities are calling a suspected double homicide that prompted a brief Amber Alert for an 8-year-old girl.

Police said Sunday morning that the girl has been found safe and was with relatives. She was uninjured. Authorities said they were questioning a man, whom they called a “person of interest” in the case.

Authorities said they were still investigating and they were executing several search warrants Sunday.

According to police, authorities received a medical call at about 11 p.m. Saturday about a woman on the 200 block of Broadway Street. They arrived and found 28-year-old Melissa Tuinstra of Berlin lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. Officers then entered an apartment and found 28-year-old Justin Daniels, also of Berlin, inside. He also had been shot.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

During the investigation, authorities became concerned about the girl, and an Amber Alert was issued. Authorities found her with relatives in Marquette County.
