Cubs can't score enough for Wada vs. Brewers
MILWAUKEE - Tsuyoshi Wada pitched 5 innings for the Cubs Saturday night as they fell 2-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.
Wada gave up 8 hits and 2 runs as the Brewers evened this season-ending series at one game apiece.
Cubs batters struck out 13 times against Brewers starter Wily Peralta, who worked 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run.
The Cubs broke out on top 1-0 in the third. Chris Coghlan led off with a walk. After Javier Baez struck out, Anthony Rizzo doubled to the right-field corner to score Coghlan.
The Brewers tied it in the bottom of the inning when Carlos Gomez led off with his 23rd home run of the season, a drive to left-center. Gomez led off the fifth inning with a double and later scored on a double by Jonathan Lucroy. It was Lucroy's 53rd double of the season, tying Lyle Overbay's team record. As a catcher, Lucroy has hit 46 doubles this season, a major-league record for the position.
The Cubs got their first look at Edwin Jackson as a relief pitcher. Jackson, who has struggled as a starter for two years, worked a scoreless seventh inning, walking one.
