Despite cancellations, SkyWest calls year success

PADUCAH, Ky. - A regional airline that handles flights from Paducah to Chicago says it is having its best year even though cancellations nearly doubled on the route from last year.

SkyWest Airlines spokesman Wes Horrocks says the airline has had to cancel 53 flights this year, but 28 of those were because of bad weather in Illinois in the first two months of 2014.

A year ago, SkyWest had 27 cancellations with 19 due to weather.

Barkley Airport Manager Richard Roof told The Paducah Sun that SkyWest, based in St. George, Utah, is aware of weather-related issues in Chicago and is working to mitigate them.

Roof says his staff looked at other cities with similar service patterns to Paducah and found the airport's experience is not unique.
