Lake County roundup

Trailing by a goal in the second half, Grayslake North's boys soccer team rallied for 2-1 win over visiting Hampshire in a Fox Valley Fox Division match Thursday night.

Chris Zamora and Zach Kottmer scored for the Knights (9-5-1), while Denzel Mitchem and Ben Tompoles had assists.

"Tonight's game was another quality performance from two teams that both had moments in which they were dangerous in attack as well as moments of nervousness in the defense," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "We came out with a good intensity from the start and fought hard to win loose balls and put them under pressure. While we had some good possession in good areas of the field, we were not looking to attack the goal as much as needed and we struggled to find a way to get on the board in the first half."

Grayslake North scored the tying goal with about 15 minutes left the game, when Zamora won a ball and finished. With less than a minute to play, Tompoles won the ball high up the field and played a pass across the top of the box. The senior Kottmer controlled it and curled a shot into the far corner of the goal.

"The entire group of seniors deserves special note," DeCaluwe said, "as each of them played well to help lead this team to the win."

Lakes 3, Carmel 3: Cesar Murua, Sean O'Brien and Derek Espinosa scored for Lakes in a match that was part of Carmel's quad.

Cam Beezley added a pair of assists for Lakes (4-7-3), while O'Brien also assisted on a goal.

Grayslake Central 2, Prairie Ridge 1: Isaac Longenecker knocked in a penalty kick and assisted on Jonny Madrid's goal, as the host Rams pulled out the Fox Valley Fox match.
