Suburban firefighters battle fire that destroys Wadsworth house

A vacant Wadsworth house was destroyed by a fire early Wednesday, authorities said.

No one was hurt in the fire at 16098 MacIntosh Court, near Orchard Bluff Lane. The house was for sale, Newport Township Fire Protection District Chief Mark Kirschhoffer said.

The blaze was discovered about 4:15 a.m. by neighbors who called 911.

Firefighters from Lake, McHenry, Kenosha and Racine counties were called in to battle the blaze. The neighborhood doesn't have hydrants, so water was brought in on trucks and taken from a nearby pond, Kirschhoffer said.

The fire was under control by about 6:30 a.m., but the 3,600-square-foot house couldn't be saved.

The fire was under investigation Wednesday.
