O'Brien paces a Palatine victory

Palatine 20, Hoffman Estates 40: Junior Kelly O'Brien took first in 17:43 leading host Palatine to a 20-40 Mid-Suburban West dual meet victory over Hoffman Estates in girls cross country Tuesday at Deer Grove East Forest Preserve.

Palatine, ranked No. 5 in the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Poll, placed five runners in the top seven to defeat No. 9 Hoffman Estates.

Senior Amy Kieliszewski (18:17), junior Sam Lechowicz (18:18), and senior Megan Beach (18:19) went 3-4-5, with freshman Lauryn Simon (18:30) taking seventh place. Junior Meagan Biddle (17:58) took second to pace Hoffman Estates.

Fremd 26, Barrington 30: Senior Ayako Higuchi continued to impress, taking first in 17:33 and leading No. 13 Fremd to a 26-30 MSL West victory over Barrington at Harper College.

Senior Katie Escobar (18:07) aided the Vikings with a third-place finish, followed by senior Anita Grudzien (18:48) and junior Nora Finegan (18:55) in fifth and sixth.

Junior Lauren Conroy (17:50) pushed the Barrington attack with a second-place finish and freshman Jocelyn Long (18:32) added a fourth-place finish for the Fillies.

Schaumburg 18, Conant 41: Senior Erin Falsey (18:46) and senior Caroline Kurdej (18:47) went 1-2 in leading No. 8 Schaumburg to a 18-41 victory over host Conant at Busse Woods. Freshman Lauren Kubiniski (18:57), senior Ali Gutt (19:11), and sophomore Valerie Schackelton (19:13) completed the Saxons' scoring by going 4-5-6.

Sophomore Sydney Davis (18:55) paced Conant with a third-place finish.

Prospect 27, Rolling Meadows 28: Sophomore Brooke Wilson (19:08) and sophomore Aileen White (19:20) went 1-2 in helping Prospect edge host Rolling Meadows 27-28 in a MSL East dual meet victory. Junior Gabby Sanchez (19:43), junior Leslie Rosiles (19:51) and sophomore Anna Czulno (20:03) kept things close for Rolling Meadows by going 3-4-5.

But sophomore Molly Leeney (20:08) and junior Veronica Holloway (20:22) helped seal the victory for the Knights by taking sixth and eighth place.

Hersey 26, Buffalo Grove 29: Sophomore Claire Gritt (19:51) and sophomore Hailey Bowes (19:55) went 2-3 in pushing host Hersey to a 26-29 MSL East victory over Buffalo Grove at Melas Park. Junior Kaitlyn Ko (19:15) took first place to lead the Bison.

Wheeling 22, Elk Grove 33: Senior Aurora Mala took first in 19:21 powering Wheeling to a 22-33 MSL East dual meet victory over host Elk Grove. Senior Ana Figueroa (19:52), senior Hailey Dammeier (19:58), and senior Jessie Sanford (20:09) aided the Wildcats attack by taking 3-4-5. Sophomore Emily Stegmeier (19:39) paced Elk Grove with a second-place finish.
