Police: Theology student from Libertyville solicited teen for sex online

A 22-year-old theological student was behind bars in the Lake County jail Monday facing up to five years in prison after his arrest on accusations he solicited what he believed was a 14-year-old boy for sex.

Dario Spasic, of the 32300 block of Milwaukee Avenue, is charged with two counts of indecent solicitation of a child stemming from his arrest Friday night. The Lake County Sheriff's Office confirmed he is a student at that address, which is listed as St. Sava Serbian Orthodox School of Theology and the Metropolitanate Center of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

According to the sheriff's office, Spasic on Friday contacted who he thought was a 14-year-old boy on a mobile social networking application. Spasic requested to meet with the boy to engage in sexual activities at about 10 p.m., authorities said.

The 14-year-old boy, authorities said, was actually a detective with the Lake County Sheriff's Office Cybercrimes Unit. When he showed up for the meeting, Spasic was met by sheriff's detectives.

A phone call to the school was not answered. According to the website, its mission is to train candidates for priesthood in the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The charges against Spasic are Class 3 felonies punishable by a maximum sentence of two to five years in prison if he is convicted. Probation would also be possible.

Spasic remained in custody Monday on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
