Mundelein's One World Festival

The 2nd annual Mundelein One World Festival was held Saturday at the Mundelein Metra Station. New to the event this year were flags welcoming visitors into the common ground representing more than 20 different countries.

Toe-tapping Linda Lane of Vernon Hills enjoyed the music of the Johnny Wagner German Band, saying, "I love to see this cultural event continue from year to year. It's a fun time."

Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz felt right at home with his German-Scottish background, getting the crowd of nearly 300 fired up as he talked about cultural appreciation from the stage before students from Fremont and West Oak Middle schools sang a medley of songs. Lentz, a big supporter of the event, says it's "outstanding."

The festival held to celebrate the cultures from around the world was hosted by the Fremont Public Library District, the Mundelein Park & Recreation District, Mundelein Community Connection, the Village of Mundelein and the Village of Mundelein Human Relations Commission.

Cultures represented included Korean, Mexican, Indian, French, Italian, Polish, Irish, German, Japanese and English.

Festivalgoers enjoyed food and wine from around the world. "It's a great family event and a nice place to hang out on a beautiful day," Mundelein senior planner Amanda Orenchuk said.
