Girls volleyball / Lake County roundup

Grace Schofield's big night helped lift Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team to a thrilling, three-set victory Wednesday.

Schofield pounded 15 kills and served 6 aces, as the Corsairs rallied to beat host Glenbrook North 20-25, 25-19, 25-19 in nonconference action.

Carmel (9-1) also got 7 kills and 16 assists from Morgan Meade, 4 kills and 13 assists from Grace Butler and 25 digs from Sierra Kepski. Taylor Luhr contributed 6 blocks, and Cate Halverson chipped in 3 kills for the Corsairs.

Lake Forest d. Mundelein: The Scouts won 25-21, 25-14 to improve to 5-6 and 2-1 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Lake Forest was led by the setting of sophomore Ashley Amos (42 of 45, 23 assists, 1 kill, 1 ace, 3 service points), junior Emma Butler (8 kills), senior Jenna Dethlefsen (8 kills), sophomore Ashley Williams (7 kills, 1 ace, 5 service points) and the overall play of defensive specialist Mari Danneker (2.25 serve receive average on a 3 point scale, 1 ace and 10 total service points).

Wauconda d. Antioch: Sara Sexton slammed 9 kills, LeAnne Sakowicz tallied 8 kills, 12 assists, 4 digs and 2 aces, and the Bulldogs won 25-22, 25-20 in North Suburban Prairie play.

Wauconda (12-4, 2-0) also received 2 aces and 6 digs from Ashley Anderson.

Stevenson d. Warren: The Patriots rallied for a 13-25, 25-23, 25-22 win in North Suburban Lake action.

"Both teams battled pretty much point to point," Warren coach Julie Filippo said.

Warren (10-5, 2-1) was paced by Jenna Walczak (10 kills 7 digs), Kim Hengesh (7 kills, 3 blocks), Lauren Frericks (6 kills, 48-of-49 setting, 10 assists), Nicole Berzin (40-of-44 setting, 16 assists) and Lindsey Biedron (4 kills, 9 digs).

Vernon Hills d. North Chicago: The Cougars cruised in the North Suburban Prairie match, winning 25-3, 25-5.
