Burglar sentenced to 16 years for Glen Ellyn crime

A man convicted of burglarizing a Glen Ellyn home was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years in prison, the DuPage County state's attorney's office said.

Paul Maior, 48, of Brookfield pleaded guilty Friday after being arrested in connection with a recent string of burglaries in Cook and DuPage counties. Police watched Maior and a Lombard man, Patrick McGuire, 48, break into a home about 9 p.m. March 15, the state's attorney's office said in a statement.

After their arrest, authorities tied them to a total of 12 residential burglaries throughout both counties. In April, McGuire pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Both men must serve 50 percent of their sentences.

"Mr. Maior and Mr. McGuire were responsible for a crime spree throughout Cook and DuPage Counties that left dozens of homeowners fearful in their own homes," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in a news release. "Citizens have the right to feel safe in their home and I believe Judge Fawell's sentence today sends the message that this type of brazen behavior will not be tolerated in DuPage County."
