Boys soccer: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, Sept. 16

Deerfield 2, Huntley 1 (OT): A goal late in the second half tied it at 1-1 for the Red Raiders (2-6-3), but it was not to be as Deerfield scored 7 minutes into overtime to win in this PepsiCo Showdown match. Allen Barientos scored on a pass from Allesandro Vergara to tie the game. Goalies Michael Parks (2 saves) and Andrew Fulcer (2 saves) split time in goal for the Red Raiders.

Libertyville 2, Streamwood 1: The Sabres (5-3-1) could not find one last goal in the PepsiCo Showdown. Alan Camarena scored the lone goal unassisted for the Sabres. Sergio Blanco finished the night with 3 saves in goal.

Cary-Grove 2, Hampshire 1: A big night by Esteban Angeles gave the Trojans (7-1) yet another victory, with this one coming on the road in Fox Valley Conference crossover play. With assists by Michael Arenberg and Josh Gratz, Angeles gave C-G an early 2-0 cushion in the first half that would hold thanks to keeper Ethan Csoka (1 save) in net. The struggles continue for the Whip-Purs (1-6-1) as they lost for the third time in four matches. Douglas Stuehler scored the only goal on a pass from Tyler Koppie in the second half. Goalie Andy Pederson had 8 saves in net.

Dundee-Crown 8, Woodstock 0: With six different players scoring goals, the Chargers (8-2) cruised easily to victory FVC crossover action. Jeremy Jereckyj led the team on offense with a pair of goals and 3 assists. Brian Guerrero also had 2 goals while teammates Andrew Janikowski, Lisandro Gonzalez, Willie Campos and Jason Horcher each scored as well. Goalie Jose Gonzalez finished the evening with 5 saves.

Crystal Lake South 2, Grayslake North 2: Unable to make a 2-goal first half lead stick, the Gators (6-2-1) had to settle for a tie on the road in an FVC crossover matchup. Orlando Tapia got the scoring started with a goal from a free kick, while teammate Stefan Harris scored on a pass from Kennan Grissom. Keeper Dalton Kause finished with 4 saves.

Grayslake Central 2, Jacobs 0: The Golden Eagles (2-8) could not get their offense going and were blanked in FVC crossover action. Eduardo Guimaray was in goal for the Golden Eagles and finished with 6 saves.

South Elgin 4, Waubonsie Valley 3: Trailing by 2 goals going into the final 10 minutes of play, the Storm (2-2-2) rallied for three scores over the Warriors and secured the Upstate Eight Valley Conference Valley Division victory. Jose Gomez scored in the first to get it close while Isaac Perez and Luke Bohlin scored to tie the game at 3-3. A Juan Carlos Lujan score and solid goaltending by Colton Wenig (6 saves) gave the Storm the victory.

Harvest Christian 2, Christian Liberty 1: A resilient Lions team held on long enough to see victory in a Northeastern Athletic Conference match on the road. With the game tied at 1-1, thanks to an early goal from Alessandro De'Argento, Antonio Nevarez scored with 10 minutes left to take the lead. Noah Fox finished with 3 saves in goal.

Glenbard South 9, St. Edward 1: The Green Wave (3-4) could not overcome a relentless attack by Glenbard South, falling in this Metro Suburban West tilt. Joe French scored the lone goal for the Green Wave on a pass from Alex Semler in the first half. Goalie Matt Hesch was everywhere in net with 12 saves to finish the day.

North Shore Country Day 7, Elgin Academy 2: Four goals in the first half spelled doom for the Hilltoppers (4-2-0) as they fell on the road in Independent School League action. Junior Drew Wilmington scored twice on passes from Julian Romano and Karl Rauschenberger. Goalie Spencer Schael was kept busy in goal, finishing with 17 saves.
