Judge changes but won't lift Ga. man's banishment

ATLANTA - A Georgia man who was banned from most of the state for firing at a house is being allowed to live with his mother, but he can't leave the county.

A judge on Tuesday ruled David Nathan Thompson cannot set foot in any Georgia county except for DeKalb, where his mother lives.

Thompson had been banished from living anywhere but Ware County as a condition of his probation after he fired at a suburban Atlanta home where his stepmother's sister lived. His living restrictions were later modified and essentially banned him from living anywhere north of Macon.

Thompson, who suffers from mental illness, grew despondent living apart from his family. He returned to DeKalb in 2012, violating his probation.

His lawyer sought to have his banishment lifted entirely.
