Aurora's Rural Street closing for 10 days

A portion of Rural Street near Ohio Street on Aurora's near east side will be closed for 10 days while Nicor relocates gas mains, officials said Tuesday.

Traffic will be detoured along Sheffer Road to Austin Avenue, officials said, and motorists should expect delays during the project.

In addition, Ohio Street at Rural Street is closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday, Sept. 18. Traffic is being detoured along New York Street, Farnsworth Avenue and Sheffer Road.

The closures will allow crews to move utilities before work begins to replace the aging Ohio Street Bridge. The replacement project, which will start next spring, will cost about $10 million, with 80 percent coming from federal bridge funds.
