Rihanna song pulled from NFL show after singer's Tweet

CBS and Rihanna are parting ways over the network's decision to yank the pop star's music from "Thursday Night Football" last week.

The network said today it's dropping a pre-recorded song from the singer after she accused CBS of using the Ray Rice domestic violence scandal to penalize her.

"CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, F you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this," Rihanna said in a Twitter posting. The singer was assaulted by her boyfriend Chris Brown in 2009.

The network pulled the singer's segment from its "Thursday Night Football" telecast last week, using the pregame show to cover the burgeoning scandal involving the league's handling of the former Baltimore Ravens running back's domestic violence case. CBS, which had planned to start using the musical number this week, is now changing course.

"Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our Thursday Night Football open," CBS Sports said in a statement. "We will be using our newly created 'Thursday Night Football' theme music to open our game broadcast."

In an interview with Sports Illustrated last week, CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus explained the network's decision to change the pregame entertainment package, saying, "We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage."

The NFL is grappling negative publicity from a number of domestic violence incidents.

Yesterday, the Radisson hotel chain suspended a sponsorship deal with the Minnesota Vikings over accusations involving one of its players, Adrian Peterson.
