Grayslake Outpatient Center to Host Women's Health Seminar

Northwestern Medicine Grayslake Outpatient Center will host a community seminar titled Steppin' Out for Women's Health on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This free, community education event includes dinner and cocktails with speakers on important women's health topics, including cancer prevention and screenings, hormones, gynecological health, diet and exercise and more. Fun favors and giveaways as well as an opportunity to schedule a mammogram will be available.

The seminar will be held in the Mallard and Heron Rooms in the Pavilion B Conference Center at the Grayslake Outpatient Center at 1475 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake. Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m., and dinner and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Speakers include:

• Tara M. Breslin, MD, MS, a breast surgeon with Northwestern Medical Group and medical director of the breast care program at Lake Forest Hospital, as well as an associate professor of surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Breslin is an award-winning researcher, whose work on improving health outcomes, regional quality collaborations and breast care program development has been published in several leading medical journals. Breslin's remarks will focus on understanding your breast cancer risk.

• Alok Pant, MD, a gynecologic oncologist with Northwestern Medical Group who specializes in the minimally invasive DaVinci Robotic surgical system for cancer patients at Lake Forest Hospital. Pant specializes in treating ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, vulvar cancer and trophoblastic disease. He uses the DaVinci surgical system for oncology patients as well as for patients with benign concerns such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis and pelvic masses.

• Valerie Nelson, MD, MBA, a hematology oncologist with Northwestern Medical Group who is developing a comprehensive cancer program for patients in the north suburbs in conjunction with the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. She also teaches residents and fellows as an inpatient preceptor at Northwestern's Prentice Women's Hospital. Nelson's clinical focus is general hematology/oncology with particular interest in cancers of the breast, lung and gastrointestinal system.
