FAA investigates emergency landing in Rockford

The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into a UPS plane's emergency landing at the Rockford airport after it reported hydraulic system trouble.

Mechanics worked on the Airbus 306 on Thursday following the Wednesday incident at Chicago Rockford International Airport, the Rockford Register Star reported. The plane was flying from California to Kentucky on Wednesday night when the crew reported loss of hydraulics, which power equipment such as flight controls, landing gear, brakes and steering. It was diverted to Rockford.

Aircraft rescue crews and firefighters were dispatched to the airport. No injuries were reported. The cargo was transported in another plane.

Investigators will interview the pilot and inspect the aircraft and maintenance records over several weeks, an FAA spokeswoman said.

The plane was set to go back into service Thursday, a UPS spokesman said.
