Granite City couple charged with abusing baby

The parents of a 7-week-old baby who was hospitalized with multiple broken bones have been charged with abusing the infant, police said.

Ashlee Wethington, 18, and Kamryn Kerr, 20, of Granite City were charged Wednesday with aggravated battery to a child and endangering the life or health of a child. The pair squeezed the boy until multiple ribs broke and then pulled his leg until it broke, Madison County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Gibbons said.

They were arrested after they brought the baby to a local hospital on Monday with broken bones and other internal injuries, police said. The baby was in serious condition at a local hospital Wednesday.

They are each being held on $200,000 bond. It wasn't immediately available if they have an attorney.
