Audition for 'Crimes of the Heart' at CLC
Auditions for the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Crimes of the Heart" will be held by the College of Lake County Theatre Department at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 15 and 16, in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.
Callbacks will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18. Performances will take place Nov. 14-16 and Nov. 20-22.
The play will be directed by Brian Gill, CLC theater department adjunct faculty member. Actors in their 20s and 30s should be ready to perform a monologue 60-90 seconds long. The parts include Lenny Magrath, eldest sister; Chick Boyle, the sisters' first cousin; Meg Magrath, the middle sister; Doc Porter, Meg's old boyfriend; Babe Botrelle, the youngest sister; and Barnette Lloyd, Babe's lawyer.
The script is available for in-library reading from the circulation desk at the CLC Grayslake library.
"Crimes of the Heart" by Beth Henley is a warmhearted comedy that examines the plight of three Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions.
Babe shot her husband because she didn't like his looks. Meg is back after a failed singing career. And poor Lenny - everyone has forgotten her 30th birthday - plus, her pet horse was just struck by lightning.
In 1981, the play won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
