St. Viator edges Cary-Grove
St. Viator girls swimming team got its first victory under new coach Jamie Klotz on Wednesday as the Lions edged visiting Cary-Grove 52-42.
The Trojans had an edge in the relays, winning the 200-yard medley with Ashlynn Baker, Melissa Rose, Emily Havard and Sarah Pilut in 2:00.56 and the 400 free relay with Sarah Pilut, Baker, Sejal Dhindsa and Rose in 4:00.73.
But Viator won the 200 free relay with Georgia Christy, Maggie McDermott, Julie Nelson and Jackie Rose in 1:51.25 and got plenty of individual victories throughout the meet.
St. Viator's Jackie Rose won the 200 IM in 2:18.38 and placed second to three-time state meet qualifier Melissa Rose in a tight race, Melissa winning the Battle of Roses 1:12.44 to 1:12.69.
Other St. Viator winners included Ashley Alteri in the 50 free (27.22) and 100 fly (1:05.41), Christy in the 200 free (2:08.96) and Gianna Chu in the 100 back (1:07.06).
Cary-Grove counted victories from Pilut in the 500 free (6:02.01) and Baker in the 100 free (58.53).
Fremd d. Buffalo Grove: The Vikings made their first visit to Buffalo Grove's new pool a winner, topping the Bison 147-39.
Erica King, Julia Portmann and Loretta Stelnicki each won two events apiece in nice times.
King won the 100 back (1:01.18) and the 500 free (5:13.89); Portmann won the 200 free (2:00.91) and 100 fly (1:03.06) and Stelnicki was tops in the 50 free (24.85) and 100 breast (1:09.66).
Other Vikings winners included Grace Kneller in the 100 free (53.44), Saki Takumiya in the 200 IM (2:11.23) and Sydney Plichta in diving (223.85).
