DePaul basketball dismisses McKinney

CHICAGO - DePaul dismissed guard Charles McKinney from the basketball team for violating team rules.

The school did not specify why he was kicked off in a news release on Wednesday.

McKinney was charged with three counts of misdemeanor simple battery following an incident with school security at his dorm early on Aug. 30, Chicago police news affairs officer Bari Lemmon said.

She said security staff suspected he was "under the influence" when he entered the dorm and decided to search his room. Lemmon said McKinney became upset during the search and pushed security as he tried to leave the room, resulting in the charges.

McKinney averaged 3.9 points and 1.9 rebounds as a junior last season.
