Hanover Park police seek public's help in probe of weekend slaying

Hanover Park police are "running down several leads" in the fatal weekend shooting of a 35-year-old Schaumburg man - the village's first homicide since 2011, Deputy Police Chief Andy Johnson said Tuesday.

Police have canvassed the Pebblewood Court complex - a mix of condos and rental apartments - several times and interviewed neighbors since the shooting on the 6600 block of Scott Lane near west Lake Street, Johnson said.

Lee Shaw died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. Saturday after being taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, police said.

The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. inside a building in the complex, Johnson said. Police received a 911 call shortly after, but Johnson declined to describe the nature of that call, citing the ongoing investigation. Police also would not say what Shaw was doing there before he was shot.

Officers have been dispatched on general calls for service to the area, but "nothing similar to this in quite a long time," Johnson said.

"It's in an area that has been really quiet," Mayor Rodney Craig said.

The Major Case Assistance Team - a task force of investigators and forensics technicians from law enforcement agencies across the Northwest suburbs - is helping Hanover Park police with the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hanover Park police at (630) 823-5500. An anonymous tip can be made via the department's MyPD smartphone app, available for download through Google Play.
