Group plans to keep Itasca Country Club a golf course

Itasca Country Club has been acquired by a group that plans to keep it as a golf course and social club.

The private club, founded in 1925 in downtown Itasca, was purchased by Itasca Golf Investors LLC.

Concerned that the property might be developed, a group of residents last month asked the village and DuPage County Forest Preserve District to preserve the site as open space. The group called Conserve Itasca Open Space started contacting elected officials after the country club's mortgage was sold to an undisclosed individual.

But the acquisition by Itasca Golf Investors LLC appear to allay those concerns.

"We are excited about this acquisition and plan to invest significant time, energy and resources into revitalizing the Itasca Country Club for its members and the residents of Itasca," Larry Swets, of Itasca Golf Investors LLC, said in a statement.

"While having an appreciation for the rich history of the club and the contributions of its current and prior members, we see this acquisition as a new beginning for the club," Swets added. "We plan to innovate and make Itasca Country Club a destination for exceptional golf, dining, community gatherings and events."

The club say it plans to provide updates and more information regarding its membership tiers, dining facility, banquet menus and golf outings.
