Candidates for Congress will meet on TV next month

Candidates in two of the big suburban races for Congress will meet on TV next month.

Republican Bob Dold of Kenilworth and Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider of Deerfield will appear for a joint interview on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" Oct. 22.

And Democratic U.S. Rep. Bill Foster of Naperville will appear a day later with Republican challenger Darlene Senger of Naperville.

As Dold and Schneider, in particular, are already doing battle with dueling TV ads, the joint appearances could give voters a relatively rare chance to see both candidates at the same time. More events in both races could be coming.

WTTW spokeswoman Julia Maish said the appearances will be candidate forums, not debates, where both will talk to a single interviewer.

Dold and Schneider's rematch race in the North suburban 10th Congressional District has drawn national interest and big-money advertising from third-party groups.

Foster is trying to hold off a challenge from Senger, a state lawmaker, in the West suburban 11th District.

Bill Foster and Darlene Senger are candidates in the 11th Congressional District.
