Police and fire officials declined to provide details to the Chicago Sun-Times early Thursday. It's unclear what caused the blast.

Neighbors say they felt and heard the explosion around 11:30 p.m. Monday. They say a mother and son lived in the home.

The home was destroyed and surrounding houses were damaged.

Streator is about 60 miles southwest of Joliet.
