Our Lady of Guadalupe sculpture to be dedicated

Catholic Cemeteries has announced the addition of a new 12-foot sculpture honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Road in Hillside. It will be dedicated by Most Rev. Alberto Rojas, auxiliary bishop of Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 9:30 a.m.

The sculpture was constructed of Mesabi Black Granite and Moon Light Gray Granite from Cold Springs Granite in Minnesota. The images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and San Juan Diego are mosaics that were created using Venetian glass tiles from Italy that measure one-half inch by one-half inch. A unique feature of this sculpture is the image of the floating roses, also made of the same Venetian glass, which is an intrinsic part of this blessed apparition.
