Northbrook Sports Center Hosts Saturday Nights on Ice

The Northbrook Sports Center will be one of the coolest places in town, when the ice rink hosts Cosmic Skating Events on select Saturday nights this season. The Northbrook Park District has announced the schedule of events, and the first one is on September 20 from 7-9pm. The community is invited to skate with a DJ and enjoy club-style lighting, along with games and activities.

"Cosmic skating was so much fun last year that we had a lot of people asking for it to be longer," said Leisure Services Supervisor Maura Drew. "We decided to offer it for two hours once a month to make sure that everyone has a chance to fully experience everything Cosmic Skate has to offer."

The combination of lights, music and a DJ add to a party atmosphere for skaters. Club Cosmic in the Community Room provides a place for non-skaters to socialize with their friends and for skaters to take a break. In addition to a DJ, the room also will have a Wii game system on some evenings, so that kids can take turns playing Wii Sports. A staff monitor will be present in the Community Room this year, and staff will provide careful supervision throughout the building during the evening and during pickup.

"Due to increased supervision, we are happy to say that cosmic skating is open to and appropriate for all ages," Drew added. "We do ask that younger children have parental supervision throughout the event, but everyone is welcome to attend. We want to encourage everyone to come out and skate - from families to seniors to students. It's a fun, safe night for everyone."

Additional Cosmic Skating Events are planned for October 25, and November 22. Winter dates are as follows: December 13, January 17, February 21 and March 21.

Advance registration is not required. Admission is $5, and skate rental, if needed, is $3.
